Magic Ring Vs. Double Adjustable Ring

In this IlDikko crochet video tutorial, you’ll learn two popular ways to begin crocheting in the round: the classic magic ring and the double adjustable ring.
Both techniques create the same result — a tightly closed center for projects worked in a circle — but each comes with its own advantages.

Magic Ring

– Quick and easy to make

– Very common technique, widely taught

– Can loosen over time if not secured well

Double Adjustable Ring

– Extra secure — once closed, it will not loosen

– Perfect for amigurumi where a tight start is important

– Slightly more complex to learn than the standard magic ring

My preference: I prefer the double adjustable ring, as it creates a firm, secure starting point that stays closed — perfect for neat amigurumi circles. Once you learn how to make it, the difficulty disappears and there’s really no difference anymore.
But in the end, you should use the technique you feel most comfortable with — it’s all about personal preference.
